Public Relations and Communications Manager
Job Description
At Kessler Foundation, advances in rehabilitation research are translated into revolutionary treatments for stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other disabling conditions. As a result, people with disabilities receive more effective rehabilitation — rehabilitation that restores mobility and the ability to think, learn, and remember, and to facilitate their return to the workplace.
The position’s primary focus will be on promoting the visibility and reputation of the Foundation to targeted audiences through efforts in media relations, publications, web, and social media.
Specific responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to) the following:
· Manage media and public relations; monitor media coverage and social media activity. Assist with regional/national outreach.
· Supervise/mentor (and collaborate with) communications staff to plan and implement projects.
· Promote the Foundation’s research, work, and mission through a variety of communications channels (such as print, web, and social media) and through collaboration with colleagues and external contacts (public relations contacts, government relations firms, agencies).
· Formulate style guidelines, policies, and standards.
· Analyze/summarize communications activities, including media outreach, media monitoring, and social media analytics; prepare monthly reports.
Requirements:
· Minimum of five years of professional experience in developing and implementing communications strategies.
· Superior writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
· Strong relationship-building skills with ability to collaborate and influence effectively.
· Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Demonstrated decision-making ability.
· Knowledge of PR tools for media monitoring/outreach/reporting.
· Ability to prioritize/manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
Preferred qualifications:
· Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree(s) in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
· Experience in developing communications strategies related to medical rehabilitation and/or disability.
· Experience with Cision media tools.
